The British government allowed them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-recently reopened American embassy (Nine Elms), which opened in 2018
Line of Events
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, is thrust into a high-profile job she’s ill-suited to, with tectonic consequences for her marriage and political future. Britain allowed filming to take place in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely bestowed upon any film or screen production, especially an American one.
One location that was not available was Winfield House, the real-life residence of the American ambassador
Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest piece of residential land (11 acres) in London other than Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes. ).
The production and acting are absolutely top-notch
The script is smart and interesting, engaging and well-paced. The character development is quite solid, and the cast are not mere caricatures.
Professional situations that suddenly escalate into "I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy" as if out of nowhere
Again and again the character seems one dimensional at first but then the story develops and they are actually much more complex than the first blush. My only complaint is that some of the injected "romance" storylines are so lame and inappropriate that they are incoherent and unexciting.
